I love it, my first run with Alexa

First time I've had one of these and I'm not disappointed. Obviously still learning what I can do with it but to be able to wake up and ask it what I'm doing today is brilliant, plus getting it to play music for me just by asking. The weather reports are good and obviously local if you set it up properly, you can ask the weather today or the weather tomorrow. I don't regret getting this and I'm now thinking I should get another one downstairs so I can have music all over the house. Sound is good enough. I'm even thinking of getting the car one.

Great sounding sphere

The 4th generation Echo Dot with LED display is my first smart speaker and I am really impressed by it. Easy to set up and sounding good as it comes out of the box. I don't think that I could ask for more.

This is a pleasant surprise as the Dot is small - roughly the size and shape of an orange with the top cut off to provide a flat base. It was simple to set up with the help of the Alexa app on my mobile. Once I had logged in to my Amazon account in the app it was just a matter of letting the app find the Dot and then answering a few questions. It took me roughly 7 minutes from start to finish. I didn't even have to enter any network name, although the option was there.

The 4th generation Echo Dot is a well designed piece of kit. It looks great and feels comfortingly solid. The firmware and software is clever. When plugged in for the first time I was greeted in several languages on the built in display and sound (I spotted English, Spanish and Italian but I was not really paying attention). The ring of LEDs around the base are used as a status display. The colours look to be orange for connected, blue when Alexa is active and switch to a rotating light to indicate that the Dot is waiting. There's a light sensor in the top that adjusts the LEDs to match the ambient light. It's a quality feature and something that I find very reassuring.

It is the sound quality that I find amazing. I am a Prime member so my first experiment was to say "Alexa play Beethoven's fifth". After a moment I was given details of the recording before the piece started playing. I was taken aback by the quality of the sound, rich and warm, that seemed to fill the room. Much better than I had expected from such a small device. Just before starting writing i called out "Alexa play Enya" and have been equally impressed. The tracks are a little bass heavy for my preference but are perfectly acceptable.

The 4th Generation Echo Dot gets 5 stars from me without any hesitation. I can see that it is going to be a great addition to my den.

Excellent bedroom clock radio!

Bought to use as a bedside clock radio. Wasn’t expecting too much in the way of sound quality but was pleasantly surprised considering it’s size. It goes loud enough and is reasonably punchy. So far the voice recognition has been 100% and very handy for all it’s information, news, weather etc. Am able to play Apple Music and other music from my iPhone which is great! All in all I would highly recommend for a bedroom or kitchen but obviously not as your main music source! Great technology for a reasonable price.

Great quality product.

This is my first Echo Dot and I’m really fascinated with it. I love being able to ask Alexa to play the music I love and really asking her anything I want to know like weather, journey times and even her jokes are good when I need to laugh. Very easy to set up with my Amazon account and although I haven’t explored all of what it’s capable of I’ve really enjoyed finding out some more things. I’m really glad I’ve purchased this might even think of getting another one for the bedroom. Great item.
I bought another one to use in the bedroom as a clock and alarm and of course my favourite music when I’m getting ready in the mornings, couldn’t ask for more and it’s still great to add things to my shopping list when I think of them. I just think that having these in my house has made my life more easy and pleasant. I really recommend having an Alexa she certainly helps.
