Amazing little device. Highly recommended.
I bought this Echo Dot 4 as a frivolous purchase thinking I would get very little use from it apart from the obvious novelty value - jokes, weather, sounds, music etc. In reality Alexa has become a bedside radio, alarm clock, music player, personal assistant and a great way to get updates on the morning news and weather. I have been amazed at the accuracy of the voice recognition and indeed the ability of the device to respond in such a human manner that I have even found myself apologising to 'her' when she hasn't quite understood me! Thanking her for information brings a little 'you're welcome' or 'anytime' which again adds to the impression that you are not just dealing with a machine. Had I known how good the sound quality is I think I would have invested in one earlier rather than a portable digital radio which has relatively poor sound quality when compared with the Echo Dot. Much better than I expected and indeed much more useful too. Highly recommended.
We have been quite impressed with it so far. The sound quality is very good and satisfy's our needs for what we want. The choice of music is generally good without having the need to subscribe to Amazon music. Currently we are happy with the streaming options of 60's, 70's etc music. Great for finding out the weather and news.
There does seem to be quite a few things it will do if you want to purchase other items that integrate with Alexa. In fact we were so impressed with it that we purchased a further one for the upstairs.
It is probably us but I don;t think it is that user friendly on the menu. I wanted to change the location of the device from upstairs to downstairs when we bought the second one but seemed to be going round in circles until I eventually found out how to do it. We now need to sort out how to get both devices playing at the same time upstairs and downstairs when you ask it too. I am sure it is quite easy but as I say above it is not all that user friendly. When searching in help it comes out with all sorts of options.
Would I recommend it - absolutely.
An experiment with mixed results
I am always keen to try new things but I have waited quite a while before dipping a toe in the world of Alexa. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of sound from this small entry level smart speaker. I am not quite so impressed with its ability to play the music I want. I have Spotify set as my default music service but Alexa seems keener to play radio stations rather than my Spotify playlists. She plays requested radio stations accurately but I suspect she prefers Amazon music to Spotify!
