Received a 4th Gen from Amazon as a gift from old friend and fellow Amazon fan.
I went online to see how to set it up properly and downloaded the Amazon Echo app to my moby, slapped in my Virgin hub password and hey presto! Sorted within seconds,
Absolutely brilliant. Wife tried "Alexa, what's the weather?' The answer was "The weather in Portsmouth is three degrees and cloudy".
I added my 'four phrases to initiate voice recognition', got her to play Little Willy by The Sweet and asked her to play BBC News.
BRILLIANT INDEED!!! I honestly did not know the Dot was so good, and I think the sound quality is excellent as well - nice and deep bass.
How the heck do they get such great tech into a tiny package?? Hats are definitely off to the brains behind this magical piece of kit.
Recommended? No.......VERY, VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Really an upgrade from the second generation echo dot.
I recently upgraded from my Echo Dot (2nd Generation) and wow. I was a little sceptical about the difference but Alexa has really moved on. The voice sounds almost human and the speaker is now more than useable to listen to music through. It's actually pleasant which is lovely. Obviously all of the old stuff/skills are still there but it does feel as if Amazon have turned a corner with Alexa and this is definitely a worthwhile upgrade.
First impression not great, but when working happy enough with
Came pre registered to my account but this seemed to cause more issues than just a normal setup process. Thankfully after forcing WiFi to connect through Alexa app on phone and a reboot (as it was not responding to Alexa command) all is working fine!
Now its working I can say that the speaker is better than expected and fine for what we wanted. So happy enough, now its working. Microphone pickup also seems fine. I think main benefit over older design is the speaker has more room to breath so works better for music. It is also aesthetically pleasing.
